Dumb Ass CrIminals is a collection of 200+ interesting articles and snippets, mostly hilarious, collected from many sources about criminals who truly need to seriously consider giving up their crooked ways because they are simply terrible at it. Take for example the Florida man who crawled under a trailer in the middle of a foot chase from the police after stealing a car. The cops found him only because he was snoring as loud as a jet plane on takeoff. The bad guys, with their criminal minds and very often caught in the act by police and sometimes makes for funny stories. When I started the research for this book I knew I would find a few good stories but the truth of it is I am beginning to think there are very few crimes, committed by thieves and burglars that go correctly for the criminals. A good example of such mentality is the story of the bank robber attempting to extract money from the teller by threatening her with a large meat clever. Instead she starting laughing when his cell phone rang and he interrupted his own robbery to take the call. I will do my best to keep my distance from these people and I strongly suggest you do the same. Even though these are not crime stories in the “thriller” category or unsolved mysteries – you will still have a ton of giggles at their expense. Like the South Carolina man who was treating his girlfriend to a dinner at Applebee’s then tried to pay for the meal with an obviously bogus one trillion dollar bill. How did the staff at the restaurant know the bill was a fake? Well, it looked like a hundred dollar bill with ten too may zeros. Oh yeah, one more thing – lock your doors! DUMBEST CRIMINALS EVER - Criminals getting caught by the police are not news, but criminals getting caught in the act because of something stupid that they did definitely make for hilarious storytelling. The 51- year old Pennsylvania man robbed a bank then led cops on a high-speed chase ending when he rammed a police cruiser. And why did he do all this? He said he was only following the instructions of his talking cat. There are stories about how burglars made the wrong call of imprisoning a homeowner in a closet filled with firearms, or how a car thief went to the drive-through window where the real car owner works, the 48- year old man offering the cops the excuse his cat downloaded 1,000 child porn images on to his computer. DUMBEST CRIMINALS EVER has more than 200 funny stories about seriously incompetent criminals. The judge told the 21- year old North Carolina woman that charges of drunkenness, resisting arrest, larceny, possession of stolen goods would be dropped in exchange for her writing an essay on "How to Behave like a Lady." While most of the bad guys in the stories aim to steal or hurt someone else, many of them end up doing a bad job of committing a crime, putting their independence at stake. The criminal stories may not be exactly the kind that leaves you with bated breath, but DUMBEST CRIMINALS EVER will definitely give you a good laugh. The 64-year-old man in Australia carjacked a woman car at knifepoint but was apprehended by the police because it took the man quite a while to put his groceries in the car and then fold up his walker and try to stow it in the car. If you want to feel good about yourself or how boring your law-abiding life may be then this book is a great pick-me-up. Flip to any page and find yourself laughing out loud, clutching your stomach at how Dumb and Dumber criminals can botch a crime if only given a chance. The 40-year old Ohio man shoplifted hundreds of dollars of clothing by stuffing them inside his jacket and pants until he looked like the Pillsbury Dough Boy then filled out a store job application using his real name and address.

This book invites all those concerned with India’s future as a nation and as a civilisation to start thinking and investigating carefully what is said about India in the social-cultural-political discourse and come to one’s own conclusions. For India to rise to her full potential Indians have to start thinking, freely and independently of all ideological preferences and fashionable academic theories, and instead must examine all the data points in the light of the truth of the Indian spirit. Indians must start a personal journey of discovering the Indian spirit, in the Indian way. The sociological and cultural observations which form the basis of the eight essays in this volume are such that even the most casual observer of India can’t miss. Concerned with popular culture, literature, group identity, religious diversity and the growing consumerist mind-set these essays explore one key question – how can Sri Aurobindo’s insights help us understand some of these outer sociological-cultural phenomena in a deeper way? But in a deeper sense, this aim is inspired by the author’s interest in making sense of the collective Indian socio-cultural experience using an Indian framework, not one that harks back to some golden age of the past, but one that is evolutionary, futuristic and yet firmly rooted in the eternal truths of Indian civilisation and culture. Such a framework is found in Sri Aurobindo’s sociological and cultural writings. His vision helps us see beyond and behind the surface phenomena and uncover some of the deeper truths being expressed through their outer forms.

The Thinking Indian: Essays on Indian Socio-Cultural Matters in the Light of Sri Aurobindo, by Beloo Mehra

Review "It is a remarkable book. Presents a very fresh approach to look at the deep significance and relevance of Sri Aurobindo's social thought to understanding some of the issues and matters concerning our present times." -- Dr. Ananda Reddy, Director, Sri Aurobindo Centre for Advanced Research"In this book I expected to find resources, insights and intuitive conclusions on the best ways to decolonize and return to Indian philosophical and ethical traditions of thought and perception. In that, the book has exceeded my expectations. The things I learned about Indian ethos and culture were an unexpected bonus."While the rest of us (educated Indians) lamented over the limiting stranglehold of western paradigms in understanding, imbibing and demonstrating our true Indian identity, Beloo has gone ahead and created detailed game plan on the shifts our perceptions must make and the corrections our vision must incorporate in order to gloriously Be Who We Truly Are! Being as steeped in Sri Aurobindo's and the Mother's thoughts as she is, she had perfectly emulated the guru's broadness of vision and depth of perception through these essays." -- Dagny Sol, Belief Coach and Writer, serenelyrapt.wordpress.com/

From the Author PRELUDE   Why the title - The Thinking Indian? I take my cue from a key message given by Sri Aurobindo in a letter he wrote to his brother in April 1920: "I believe that the main cause of India's weakness is not subjection, nor poverty, nor a lack of spirituality or Dharma, but a diminution of thought-power, the spread of ignorance in the motherland of Knowledge. Everywhere I see an inability or unwillingness to think--incapacity of thought or 'thought-phobia'.... " Almost a century has passed since he wrote these words. Are we now somewhat cured of this ailment called 'thought-phobia,' this 'inability or unwillingness to think'? I am not so sure. Perhaps some improvement is there, there are some signs of recovery. Some of us have started to realise the dire need for thinking, the urgent necessity to think for ourselves, to develop independent and free thinking, outside of the borrowed and discarded intellectual categories that we are burdened with, thanks to our colonial and colonising mainstream education. In one of his essays Sri Aurobindo said unequivocally that one of the most important reasons for the decline of Indian civilisation and culture was the loss of free intellectual activity. Today we surely see some signs of an intellectual awakening. We hear a few voices that challenge the hitherto accepted ways of thinking about India and everything Indian. These voices try to present a more authentic, culturally rooted, indigenous and a forward-looking view of understanding India's past, present and future. It is heartening to see that such voices are resonating with many open-minded and curious learners and citizens, thus broadening the circle of influence. But a lot more work is needed for an all-encompassing, a wide-ranging renewal and renaissance of Indian society. All who are concerned about India's future as a nation, as a civilisation can play their part in this intellectual awakening. This book presents one such attempt in this direction. This book is a result of some of my intellectual activity over the last few years. It is my humble attempt to remind my fellow Indians and all those interested in India - let us start thinking, and think deeply and widely. It should be obvious that I am not suggesting to continue with the merely mechanical, repetitive thought that is a function of the lowest rung of our physical minds. We need not become passive consumers of information, mindlessly accepting or rejecting what others have said just because they have been given the label of 'thinkers' or 'experts' or 'intellectuals.' We must continue to critically examine, evaluate and think through all the observations, opinions, analyses, reflections that come from various sources - academics, journalists, opinion-makers, think tanks, policy experts, celebrities, everyone. Let us start thinking on our own. Let us investigate carefully what is said about India in the social-cultural-political discourse and come to our own conclusions. If we want India to rise to her full potential we have to start thinking, freely and independently of all ideological preferences and academic theories that are currently in fashion. We have to start examining all the data points in the light of the truth of the Indian spirit. We have to start a personal journey of discovering the Indian spirit, in the Indian way. To remind ourselves of the words of Sri Aurobindo from the same message quoted earlier: "It is the one who can fathom and learn the truth of the world by thinking more, searching more, labouring more, who will gain more Shakti." It is with this hope of gaining more Shakti, more energy to continue my thinking and searching, and to facilitate, in some small measure, the same in my readers that I offer this book. Rediscover India By Indywrites The Thinking Indian is a collection of thoughts and ideas, shared and ruminated with the wisdom of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. How our society, thoughts and actions are all changing and proving the words of Sri Aurobindo true. This book of essays is for you, me and every Indian who thinks he or she matters in the ‘grand scheme of things’ and is not just going with the flow.Beloo simply highlights the necessity and urgency for all of us to be “Thinking Indian” and not just puppets to be manipulated by media, politics and money. The author merges the views and ideas expressed by them decades ago with the fact and changes permeating in our environment today. As is proven time and again an ignorant and unaware person, state or country opens itself up for loss of freedom of thought, action and deeds. She has divided the book into sections, each highlighting a specific area needing action from us Indians.“Let us start thinking and think deeply and widely.”Her aim has been, “How can Sri Aurobindo’s insights help me understand some of these outer sociological-cultural phenomena in deeper way?”Even on her blog where many more such sage thoughts are shared often I have been pleasantly surprised by the timeless wisdom she shares through Sri Aurobindo’s words. As I started to write the review I almost did a summary and notes kind of post because I wanted to condense and share these thoughts as tips or ideas of what we Indians must do to find our rightful place in the world. I stopped myself since I wish the reader get their own inference and impact from reading the book. In this book each chapter takes nuggets of wisdom from the various books, discourses and speeches of Sri Aurobindo to highlight the need of the hour. She has added her views and thoughts on what is expected from the aware and action oriented Indian. How we can make a difference through a small step, thought in the right direction. The book has excellent language and the explanations make the understanding of the sometimes deep thoughts easier. The only minus I found was that perhaps the words of Sri Aurobindo could have been highlighted differently from rest of the text as sometimes I took his words as that of the author and vice versa. A few of the paragraphs could have been divided for easier reading and quick grasp but since this book is not for the frothy reader; those wishing to learn of the truth would not not mind diving deep for the nuggets of wisdom. The book examines our culture, society, religion and inter-religious harmony and their impact on the common man as well as the impact of religious propaganda and its subtle forms, rise of Hindu nationalism. The impact, lure and influence of commercialism and consumerism for us as well as the search for the group soul; a novel concept, pretty similar to herd behavior. Quite relevant and true since we tend to follow similar things, products even for things like choosing popular holiday destinations. Finally the book ends with an essay on the impact of the foreign culture and the search for “India and Indian’ by the Indian-Americans. Further she talks of a concept of Group Soul, a common consciousness that can bring great change.Beloo’s words are not just to be read but to be understood, thought upon and discussed and to be finally acted upon. She has tried to show the path or direction our minds and ideas should move towards. She sees an India that has found its rightful place in the nations of the world. She also touches upon the utopian dream and impact of the next best thing has had on our lifestyles. Her stint in the US also gives her a unique perspective of understanding the value of our country and the need to bring the changes needed to stop yearning for the west. The Thinking Indian as the book highlights the common man who is manipulated, unaware but still clings to the corner stone of our way of life, serving as a beacon aiding us to positive actions and deeds. This book is an effort to remind us of our true heritage and the very traits we Indians proudly flaunt. This book is an effort to root out the narrow, bigoted, selfish thoughts that plague our nation today. I still feel this book needs to be read again and again to truly understand and absorb all the nuances and depth of the book.A thought provoking read since we love our India and India is the best but we can make it better.(© I received a copy of the book from the author, the views are my own.)

A collection of whimsical, satirical and sometimes serious stories and commentary about: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Golf, Cats, Dogs, Republican Politicians, F. A. Hayek, Pigford, Men In Tights, The Border, Benghazi, Marxism, The NBA, The NSA, The RNC, Shakespeare, Orwell, Drones, Global Warming, Churchill, Atlas Shrugged, Raisins, Ridley Scott Movies, Weddings, McDonald's, Noah’s Ark, Islam, Academia, Space Travel, Easter Eggs, and News of the Future from conservative humorist and writer Brian Watt. From the Introduction: Finally, the book no one has asked for but that I’m foisting on the public nonetheless. Yes, you heard it here, ‘foist’. The following collection of short stories, political commentary, satire, and occasional sarcasm is my own vain and feeble attempt to unveil the Dorian Graying of America, to reveal a country now fundamentally transformed, gruesomely transfigured and rapidly descending into a kind of madness and buffoonery where lies are passed off as truth and where Orwellian newspeak is presented as news. We live in a country that seems to care more about Kim Kardashian or Miley Cyrus’ respective rear ends than about the eventual default and dissolution of the economy, whether Islamist terrorists may be crossing the country’s southern border, whether Vladimir Putin is hell bent on reconstituting the Soviet Union, whether Israel will be annihilated, or whether China and its navy and military will control the sea lanes in the Pacific and begin to acquire new real estate. We watch as our cities, run for decades by Democrats who have poured in billions of dollars to improve education and provide opportunities, are now combat zones that police can’t police without the risk of being arrested. We look to a younger generation of bright minds who have, for years, been told by a predominantly Marxist-embracing professorial class that America is only exceptional in that it is a racist, sexist, greedy, oppressive imperialist nation subjugating other peoples and nations on the planet. This from an academy that continues to confer professorships and tenure to like-minded simpletons, charlatans, scoundrels and in some cases former criminals - one of whom helped launch the political career of our current president. A good deal of the content in this collection of work may be considered offensive to those who lack the genetic material for self-awareness, self-deprecation or humor in general. Those nannies and fussbudgets who insist on political correctness will be especially affronted…and should be if I’ve done my job right. "Somehow Brian Watt makes being an American in 2015, after eight very weird years (and more to come) not only bearable but very funny." — Rob Long, Co-founder of Ricochet.com

While my political views do not always correspond with the author's, he does a great job of mixing humor, wit, and insight. Each essay takes on a life of it's own, and it is interesting to see how the views evolve over the course of time. Great read for any political junkie!!

Captain James Cook was one of Britain’s foremost naval explorers. Cook made three voyages to the islands of the Pacific where he was the first recorded European to make contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands. Having joined the navy as a teenager Cook rose through the ranks before being given his pivotal commission in 1766 as commander of the HMS Endeavour. Walter Besant presents a detailed view of Captain Cook, with a unique look at his family life as well as his fascinating voyages across the pacific. Writing in 1890 Besant’s biography is in itself a historical document, a fascinating insight into Cook at a time when some of the world was still waiting to be discovered. Besant starts his story at Captain Cook’s humble beginnings, working in a shop in a seaside town before running away to sea. He shows Cook’s rise from ship’s boy to Captain and how he learned to navigate across the seas. Through a selection of journals Besant explores Cook’s famous journey in search of what is now known as Australia, his interaction with the natives of the Pacific islands and finally his death after a fight with the Hawaiians. Besant takes the reader on a fascinating journey with Captain Cook across the Pacific, revealing his discoveries, the beautiful Pacific islands and the people who lived there. Sir Walter Besant (14 August 1836 – 9 June 1901) was a novelist and historian. His main novels include All in a Garden Fair (which Rudyard Kipling credited in Something of Myself with inspiring him to leave India and make a career as a writer) Dorothy Forster, Children of Gibeon, and All Sorts of Conditions of Men. The two latter belonged to a series in which he endeavoured to arouse the public conscience to the hardship among the poorest classes of cities. It was here that the Native Hawiians learned about western man and from here that word spread about them across the islands. The author does explain that Cook's vouyages scientific expeditions with skilled crew in studying cultures, languages, resources, and habits, not just a trading ship. It was here that Cook's crews completed supplies to undertake the vouyage to North America. The book is short on the importance of the notes and diaries to other explorers including the overland venture of Lewis and Clark. The information is available In Volumne II, Chapter XI of the very difficult to read write up of the vouyages in 1793.

The emphasis on high quality and cost-effective health care mandates the adoption of competency-based practice, which ties individual and department performance to an organization’s bottom line. COLLABORATE provides the framework for the professional case manager to incorporate a competency-based practice on a daily basis.  COLLABORATE defines categories of competence, which drive positive outcomes for the patient, organization, and – most importantly – for the case management professional seeking to improve his/her level of practice excellence.   The ultimate focus of case management is to improve the client’s health care experience and quality of life. COLLABORATE facilitates this expectation, raising the professional profile of case management through the promotion of outcome-driven relationships across the entire care team. This advanced model defines professional practice and unifies the essential knowledge, skills, and characteristics necessary for contributing value in virtually all care settings.   This text is presented in four sections: Section 1: Historical validation and paradigm rationale; Section 2: Presentation of COLLABORATE competencies; Section 3: Practical application for the individual and organization; Epilogue: A look to the future of case management practice.  COLLABORATE provides the momentum for all stakeholders to shift away from the past task-driven approach and advance into the realm of professional case management practice, which is universally recognized as an outcomes-driven profession.

When, in 1810, Franz Joseph Gall said: "The measure of culpability and the measure of punishment can not be determined by a study of the illegal act, but only by a study of the individual committing it," he expressed an idea which has, in late years, come to be regarded as a trite truism. This called forth as an unavoidable consequence a more lively interest on the part of various social agencies in the personality of the criminal, with the resultant gradually increasing conviction that the suppression of crime is not primarily a legal question, but is rather a problem for the physician, sociologist, and economist.

Fascinating analysis of prison psychoses By Amazon Customer Prisoners are known to have high rates of ASPD and malingering of psychotic or psychiatric illness would not be uncommon. There are also of course specific syndromes associated with the prison setting such as Ganser's syndrome which appears not to be a form of malingering. This book discusses specific case studies of "true prison psychosis" and explains why they do not appear to be cases of malingering. Of course prison is a stressful experience and may well precipitate brief psychotic disorder or even the first episode of more chronic schizophrenic illness.
