We all tend to throw away our money (I know I find it easy to spend it on frivolous things). This book gives you ideas how to save money responsibly. There's some great tips on how to pinch a few pennies from our day-to-day lives. There's also lots of ideas on places to save our money (savings accounts, high-interest or high-yield savings accounts, CDs, etc.) The book guides you in setting a savings goal and how to manage your money wisely. I found the book interesting and very helpful. After reading it, I had lots of good ideas to help me start saving money and to also use what money I have more wisely.

Brush holds degrees in Engineering (B.E., Vanderbilt University), Divinity (M.Div., Vanderbilt University), Philosophy (M.A., Vanderbilt University) and Theology (PhD, University of Zurich, Switzerland). He was a Postdoctoral Scholar at Harvard University, and until his retirement in 2010, he was Professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. His publications include a three-volume series in German on the relationship between science and religion.

By Richard Alan Bunch Review of Jack Brush’s Citizens of the Broken Compass: Ethical and Religious Disorientation in the Age of Technology This volume is an invitation, an invitation to thoughtfully consider some of the world wide issues that face us in our time. Here Professor Dr. Jack Brush, in a fair and balanced appraisal, considers topics for dialogue or even debate such as varieties of atheism (theoretical, practical, and religious), same-sex marriage, why Darwin is still a topic of debate and is it possible to be a scientist who is also justifiably religious, when does war become murder and what are the differences between a holy war, a just war, and an honorable war. Dr. Brush also distinguishes understandings between the scientific, the literary, and the historical when it comes to such topics as the Virgin birth. Is such a birth even possible? And how are we to understand it? Next, Brush deftly covers the differences between an abstract understanding of God (Einstein) and anthropomorphic understandings of God as in a religious text such as the Bible. He even takes into consideration Fritjof Capra’s Tao of Physics and how people need a scientific understanding of the world and a profound religious awareness to address current problems such as those in ecology. Charlotte's Rules for Nurses: A Centennial Celebration, by Charlotte Aikens

About the Author Charlotte Albina “Lottie” Aikens (1868-1949) born in Canada and a graduate of Ontario's Stratford Hospital, was a widely known nursing authority. An Army nurse in the Spanish-American War, Miss Aikens was an educator, supervisor of nurses, and director of Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. She wrote several textbooks on nursing, nursing education and hospital administration and helped set up Detroit’s home nursing program. Lois Angelo, a clinical specialist in psychiatric-mental health nursing, has taught for over 25 years in BSN and ADN programs. In 2009, she received Sister Callista Roy's first theorist theme award. Lois is the care manager of the emergency department at Newton Wellesley Hospital in MA, and is a recent contributor to a variety of nursing textbooks.

About the Author

Mederic (“Med”) Daigneault is the senior director of private fund services at National Regulatory Services (NRS). He works closely with compliance officers to identify their firms’ regulatory obligations, conflicts of interest, and other risks in the development and implementation of comprehensive compliance programs.

He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University and earned his law degree at Boston College Law School. He practiced law as a corporate and securities lawyer before joining NRS in 2004.

Daigneault has assisted hundreds of investment advisers, including scores of private fund managers, in fulfilling their regulatory obligations. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and topical seminars sponsored by a wide variety of financial industry associations, vendors, and regulators. The book is for all times and relevant for those fresh and entering the compliance profession as well as those already immersed in it. For the novice, it is a great ready reckoner as it gives an overview of all that is of utmost importance in carrying out their compliance duties. For the experienced, it is a great reminder.....a refresher of the very foundation on which compliance was built, which can be overlooked due to other pressing and demanding areas in compliance that has grabbed one's attention over the past few years. The book is written well, easy on the eye and mind, is laid out well with just the right amount of information and sufficient depth.It reinforces the sanctity and importance of compliance work. No matter what may come and go, the "core" principles is for all times and must become the core of every compliance professional. My favorite chapter is on Trading. Mederic has demystified this rather tough topic and on soft dollars as well. Anyone new to this industry should pick up this book. It will serve as a great starter!Overall, Mederic has done a wonderful job in capturing the essence of compliance rules and practice. A timely reminder to us compliance professionals to stay on track and never forget the cardinal "core.''

Smith Having read many self-help and developmental books over numerous years, it gets to the point where most start sounding alike; same ideas repeated over and over again. Lessons for an Urban Goddess is unique in that it takes ageless wisdom and communicates it in the context of the technologically advanced times we are living in. This is a relationship text book of sorts for the real world.Have you ever read a book and felt that the author was talking about you? Well that is how I felt at times while reading this well written book. Laney Zukerman dispenses practical advice that resonates with a reader who is interested in gaining deeper perspective into relationships. Even more importantly, this book tackles communication strategies to deal with the multitude of different personality types and behaviors that are evident in virtually every relationship.Generally speaking, even though this book is ostensibly written for an “urban goddess”, those men who are interested in not being “blockheads” can succeed in actually learning to reverse-engineer into a partner’s mind. If you are a man who is confused and searching for answers in your relationship, then this is an excellent place to invest your time to listen and learn how to get results.The pacing of the writing style draws a reader in and causes one to not put the book down; you want to see what Laney Zukerman says next. I certainly, for now, will be looking forward to the next book from this author.

Excellent By Autamme_dot_com This is a book you don’t want to like because of its subject matter and the impact it has on many lives, yet it is a stunning, sensitive and impactful study at the same time.The authors take an academically focussed look at the 2008 financial crisis that is still reverberating around the world, carefully and neutrally examining the social consequences and noting that its impact is far from equal. Many are not really being affected at all and yet others are having their lives turned inside out. For many, society itself is changing and that brings its own challenges and opportunities – albeit depending at what end of the telescope you are looking through. The book’s research focuses primarily on developments in the U.K. and U.S., although other countries also get a look in too.Publicity material for the book gives a powerful starting point: “The ubiquitous metaphor of the crisis has been an all-encompassing ‘financial storm’ but (…) the data tracks the narrow path of a tornado - destroying some neighbourhoods while leaving others largely untouched. But this hard-hitting analysis provides a wake-up call that all should heed.”After reading this book it is hard to disagree with these claims, even if many politicians and those in positions of power will do the equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears whilst chanting “la la la!” According to some official views and statistics there is an economic revival in many countries, although there is no universal feel-good factor. Are statistics being modified or strongly leant up and redefined? If employment is up, for example, is this due to real, measurable expansion in the economy or people migrating towards temporary, zero hours or self-employment contracts. For the average man or woman on the street who is lucky to have a job, most agree that real-term pay has been steadily sinking for years, contributing to the sharpest pay squeeze since the 1860s and the most sustained decline on record.The book seeks to focus on verifiable facts – as befits an academic work – rather than political rhetoric and posturing. Naturally some may argue with the interpretation, such is their prerogative, yet the source of claims and references are given and can be tracked back. A clear case of “don’t shoot the messenger” even if the message is not pleasant reading – the authors are clear that the book is unashamedly about inequality, as well as about recession. Even though as a society many countries are better off than others and that we are comparatively richer than many of our ancestors, life is not necessarily a walk in the park for the majority of people. Yet for those at the bottom of society’s totem pole, it can be immensely hard if not nigh on impossible to slowly climb up.The authors have done well in cramming this book full of interesting material and making it readable both for the casual “regular Joe” as well as the academic. This is a book that might not change your life, but it will surely have you thinking differently about life and other people. It is a highly recommended “serious” read and at its price point it should not be missed.

By Matthew Ward Super quick read...that details the necessary steps and process for protecting yourself as the seller in a real estate transaction. Attorney Rocheford outlines in basic, non legal terms, what the pitfalls are during the sale of a home, and how to avoid those pitfalls. Often times when I read a book, I think....I know that. However in this case, not only did the author include things I already knew, he also included things I did not know. Not only was this worth the money I paid, but it was not a time waster. He got to the point quickly, delivered the necessary information, then wrapped it all up nicely. I read this book within a day and was very happy that I did so!

Kavanagh Thank you Attorney Rocheford for sharing your expert knowledge in a fashion that is concise and easy to read for the Real Estate selling public. This is an excellent piece of reference material for Sellers (and Buyers too) as they maneuver through the process of selling real property in Massachusetts. Unlike some other reference guides I have seen, the author does a great job of using lay-persons terminology and keeps the very detailed and sometimes confusing topic of real estate sales understandable.
