It covers everything from securing evidence to making arrests (rare though that may be for security guards), etc. Skils and training on such topics as surveillance, patrolling and crowd control are other useful areas covered. “The Ultimate Security Guard Training Handbook: Pass the officer exam, get licensed, and take your law enforcement career to the next level!” by Braun Pigeon, is well organized and does everything its long but accurate title promises. It even covers how people will act when under the influence of specific drugs which is very helpful in order to know what you’re dealing with. Recommended. Five stars.

Just starting applying for a couple jobs in my area so I decided to start studying a little. Found this security guard handbook and decided to give it a read. Great introductory book on becoming a security guard. I specifically enjoyed the codes and their meanings listed in the back. I would recommend this handbook to anyone looking to become a security guard.

It was overly simplistic to me and was not giving me any indication of interesting facts to follow. Sorry if I did not stick in there long enough. First 1/2 hr to 1 hr is vital to me in terms of having to keep my interest and this one did not.

Autism is definitely something that ascended like a plague in recent years, and various harmful effects of vaccines deserve to be further explored. Well researched and explained, this is a book on vaccines that does a great job of telling the story and how it affects us all. Highly recommended.

I know how you're feeling, I've seen it first hand from my parents when the doctor led me and my mother into his office, sat down at her desk on august 8, 2005 and said: "Why do I always get to tell the bad news? Yes, you've got diabetes type 1." That's it, my life's over, I thought. It's a pretty scary picture for many people as it was for me; it must be even scarier for parents like you. Almost 10 years from that day, I'm confident in saying my life definitely didn't end that day, but truly began. I can imagine how you feel at this time, your child; that which you hold most dear, has acquired a disease. You may feel helpless and if you could, you would switch places with your child in a heartbeat. I’m here to tell you there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Think of this as the beginning of an adventure, one that leads to a long, complication-free, healthy life. There will be obstacles, that, I can assure you, but in time you’ll see they’re nothing your child can’t overcome with a little discipline and support from you. My name is Alberto Towns, and I’m here to show you diabetes type 1 isn’t as scary as it seems. My parents and me have gone a long way from that day. We’ve learned lots of things and I’ve acquired my Best Practices that have led me to manage my diabetes without any complications. I’ll be glad to share them with you. Inside this book you’ll learn all the basics you need to get back on your feet and start managing your child’s diabetes. I’m convinced diabetes can be tamed into another of man’s best friends for it helps people adopt habits and practices that everybody, diabetic or not should have, and hence, lead a better life than people that aren’t “sick”. Just think of it, do you honestly think a person that smokes, leads a sedentary lifestyle and makes no exercise is truly healthier than a diabetic that does exercise on a daily basis, has a strict, healthy diet and is free of any toxic habits? My guess is not. The sole purpose of this book is to help parents like you get back on their feet and be able to see what I’ve seen during almost 10 years now, and that is, diabetes can be a blessing. It has become a part of who I am and I wouldn’t change anything at all. I sincerely hope this book helps you set your child on its way to a healthy, complication free, long life. I hope as well, that years from that day when your child got his diagnose, you’ll look back and see how has he triumphed over the people who choose to look diabetes as that which it certainly not is, a disease.

Because she is so young I bought this for to her make sure she could understand what was going on. This is such an amazing and helpful book to read about a very confusing disease. As a nurse I understood it all but it was great for her and her mom to read. It breaks down all the type of foods we eat and which ones would be best and worse for her to eat.A great crash course.

An idyllic summer at the cottage in the 1950s, as revealed through the eyes of a boy on the cusp of adolescence: experiencing his first crush, discovering the joy of nature, and struggling to understand grown-ups.Every year, from the end of June to the end of August, Bruce and his family go to their cedar-clad cottage on the blue, wide lake. At first, this summer of 1954 seems like any other: floating in the row boat with Grace from next door, jumping off the diving raft, eating peach pie, exploring with Angus the dog, watching the seagulls, frogs and herons and catching crayfish. But just when he realizes life is perfect, everything starts to change. He’s ten, the family dynamics are shifting, and over the summer both the harshness of the adult world and the patterns of the natural world reveal themselves. By the time the weather turns he will be a different child, and will have chosen his own path to understanding the wilderness that waits behind their wooden homes. Funny, subtle and true, Barefoot at the Lake transports us to a long, hot, poignant summer.

Barefoot at the Lake: A Boyhood Summer in Cottage Country, by Bruce Fogle

Review "Bruce Fogle is best known as the veterinarian author of numerous guides to cat and dog care... [Barefoot at the Lake] is a book full of quiet wisdom and also an inspiring account of how an adult vocation can grow from the formative experiences of childhood"—The Bookseller"Bruce Fogle's sweet, beautifully-written memoir, Barefoot at the Lake, precisely catches the fleeting magic of both adolescence and Canadian summer. Reading it is like peering into a snapshot, taken long ago at a beloved cottage." —David Macfarlane, author of Summer Gone"As contemplative and unhurried as a long and lazy summer day, Barefoot at the Lake is a delightful return to an age of innocence, seen through the eyes of a soulful young boy. Dive into its world of frogs and minnows, campfire yarns and home-baked peach pies; you won't want to pull yourself away when sundown comes." —Margaret Langrick, star of My American Cousin

About the Author Bruce Fogle is a veterinarian and the best-selling author of many books about Dogs and Cats, including "The Encyclopedia of the Dog" and the "K.I.S.S guide to Living with a Dog." This is his first memoir.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I want to go barefoot at that lake! By Rosalind Carol Barefoot at the Lake is a gentle and tender book about the special connection the author had with his Uncle Reub, a doctor who spent one summer, in his white shirt with suspenders and a handkerchief on his head, at the author’s family cottage. Uncle Reub is fascinated by Lakota Sioux Indian stories and using those stories quietly educates his nephew about the natural world around them. I am a nature guide in California and am impressed at how well versed the author or his uncle (I don’t know which one) is in nature lore. Fogle writes with deep affection for the lake and the country. This is a beautiful book and makes me wonder what he feels now when he revisits his family cottage. I particularly liked the sense of wonder at nature, and the unfolding of the relationship with his uncle.

This is an outstanding text organized around basic patterns in bone pathology and radiology. There is abundant radiographic correlation and the text is generously illustrated with high quality images. Mostly focused on neoplastic bone pathology and mimics, but there are chapters on degenerative joint disease and crystal arthropathies also.

Very useful guide to bone pathology: pattern-based approach with beautiful illustrations By Jerad Gardner I still find bone pathology challenging, usually much more challenging than soft tissue pathology for a variety of reasons. The biopsies are often very small and fragmented, many of the tumors look alike, correlation with radiographs is essential, and there are so many non-neoplastic processes that are relatively subtle histologically. Even as a bone and soft tissue pathologist, I still find myself pulling out my textbooks several times per week when working up bone biopsies in my practice. Thus I need practical bone pathology textbooks with lots of high quality figures, a pattern based approach to diagnosis, and pragmatic advice on how to sort out difficult differential diagnoses. Practical Orthopedic Pathology is just such a book. Co-authors Andrea Deyrup (a former Sharon Weiss trainee like myself) and Gene Siegal (a distinguished bone pathologist at University of Alabama Birmingham) have created a fantastic comprehensive guide to the world of bone pathology. This book provides solid in depth coverage of the basics of normal bone anatomy, physiology, and radiology. I learned a plethora of fascinating factoids about how bone forms and why it looks as it does microscopically just from reading a few pages of the Normal Bone Anatomy chapter. I was also impressed by the very useful tips on proper histologic techniques for processing and cutting bone biopsy specimens. Radiology basics are also thoroughly reviewed in a practical manner accessible to the general pathologist. Discussion of imaging is tied back to the underlying pathology and there are tips for avoiding pitfalls. The heart of the book is a comprehensive text that covers the breadth of bone pathology. Rather than dividing the main text of the book into chapters based on specific entity names (e.g. – osteosarcoma, giant cell tumor, fibrous dysplasia), this book is organized into sections based on the major histologic pattern coupled with the radiographic pattern. Examples include: “Lesions characterized by osteoid deposition and non-aggressive radiology”, “Lesions characterized by cartilage deposition and aggressive radiology”, “Lesions characterized by large numbers of giant cells replacing trabecular bone”, etc. Specific entities are then discussed within those pattern-based sections. Useful tables discussing each of these patterns, the entities included in each pattern group, and pertinent histologic and radiographic mimics, are laid out at the very beginning of the book. It is a brilliant, practical approach to organizing a bone pathology textbook. One may not know the name of the entity just by looking at the slide, but if there are numerous giant cells replacing the trabecular bone, then it is clear which chapter is appropriate. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the entire book is richly illustrated with beautiful high-quality color images of gross and microscopic pathology, as well as numerous black and white radiographic images. Online access to the entire textbook and all images via ExpertConsult.com is provided for free with purchase of the book.Summary: Practical Orthopedic Pathology is an outstanding addition to the Pattern Recognition series of pathology textbooks. I am very happy to own this book. The outstanding features discussed above have earned it a coveted place in the small stack of books I use most often in practice and keep within arm’s reach of my microscope.Jerad M. By Private Another great addition to the "Pattern Recognition Series" - a helpful way for trainees and practicing pathologists alike to gather differential diagnoses of challenging lesions. One benefit of this book is it's inclusion of both benign and malignant lesions as well as non-neoplastic diseases; Also emphasizes the importance or correlation with radiology. A good resource.
