Dejonghe I’ve been a regular reader of Instaread summaries; they tend to follow a great formula of summary, themes, main characters and writing styles, which is great for books on the Top Seller lists…usually. The summaries help me know whether to buy a book, and if I do buy it, they help as a guide to what I’m reading or to reinforce what I’ve read. However, there are some books that are a little more complicated (e.g., books by Covey and Pink). This is the first such book that I’ve used Instaread for and I am overly pleased!!Books like this are hard to put in a compact formula: they are rich with examples, documentation, and practical information. I love—LOVE!!—how this Instaread summary condenses hundreds of valuable pages into key deliverables. This summary describes the general setup for the book and then gave me several pages of key takeaways. By reading this, I now have the general since of what the author is trying to convey in each of his varied stories. I’m also appreciative of the summary’s nuanced way of telling me to look for such things as a Christian perspective (e.g., Adam 1 versus Adam 2, better valued life, the power of love, etc.). Though this is not a Christian-based book because of the varied stories the author shares, it does feel applicable.I also appreciate the summary in how it tells me the style and approach of this book. What I specifically was looking for was the comparisons to books like Bennet’s old Moral Compass book—thankfully, it’s not like those types of old-school books. This book looks like something I’d enjoy; I’m glad to have read the Instaread summary to guide my future purchase, and for helping to have a compact takeaway reminder of bettering my character!

My favorite was the commentary on how self-mastery is an illusion. "The Road to Character" instead argues that we cannot master ourselves, but rather we can master our reaction to stimuli. The depth of the analysis is great, making it a perfect substitution for those without the time to read the book. As a student I can easily pick up this review and write an amazing book report or paper outlining the key principles of "The Road to Character." Better than Sparknotes!

It would benefit from some editing, as there are several grammatical errors and awkward sentences. It does not attempt an analysis of the book, it merely tries to present the main concepts of the book, and I believe it succeeds in this.
