S. Carlisle May is a prolific writer and the great-niece of Dr. Lamb Myhr. A graduate of Auburn University, May has written articles for USAA Magazine, Auburn magazine, Transplant Chronicles, the Daily Tribune News (Cartersville, GA), and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Through the National WWII Museum’s travel program, May followed the path of American and Allied forces from England to Normandy and into Germany. She also retraced the campaigns of the Allies in Malta and Sicily, Italy. A lifelong history enthusiast, May lives near Atlanta, Georgia, with her family.
Foreword author Martin K. A. Morgan is a noted military historian and regular contributor to the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, and the National Geographic Channel. His work has appeared in publications including WWII Quarterly and WWII History. A former historian-in-residence at the National WWII Museum, Morgan is a field editor at American Rifleman magazine. He lives near New Orleans, Louisiana.

Author S. Carlisle May has traveled across the United States and Europe in researching the experiences of Dr. Lamb Myhr, her great-uncle. Her work has been published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, USAA Magazine, and Transplant Chronicles, and she is a founding member of the Congenital Heart Public Health Consortium.

About the Author S. Carlisle May was raised in a military family and spent time growing up in South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Germany. She received her BA in political science from Auburn University and worked as a substitute teacher for two decades. A prolific writer and frequent public speaker, May leads workshops across the nation. She lives with her family near Atlanta, Georgia.Martin K. A. Morgan is an author and noted military historian. Get the nitty gritty of support units By Vermont Wood May’s depiction gives the reader ample information to picture the life of a WWII flight surgeon, and the workings of a Troop Carrier Squadron (TCS). The book is less a personal portrait than a description of how these air units operated as vital support for the war on the ground. This is not another front line battle narrative, but rather a detailed look at one aspect of the army medical support services. Of particular interest are May’s descriptions of the 50th TCS participation in Sicily, D-Day and the Rhine Crossing. May draws from her great uncle’s stories and letters, but much more from a variety of other sources to pull together the narrative. As the author of “Letters to a War Bride” Letters to a War Bride, a depiction of my father’s experiences as a battalion surgeon on the ground, I appreciate the opportunity to learn about what his aerial counterparts were doing at the same time. For others interested in the nitty gritty of support units in WWII, this is a worthwhile read.

S May brings saga of a young doctor recently graduated from Vanderbilt and his experiences throughout WWII. Highly detailed account of the behind the scenes action from Africa to the Eagles Nest. Dr. Myhr battled not only the physical but the mental wounds that those in combat suffered. The book is chocked full of personal correspondence and photos.
