The first edition of Understanding Immigration had a subtitle of A Common Sense Approach. This second edition has a new subtitle: A Guide for Non-Profits, Recognized Organizations, and Accredited Representatives. The notion of “Common Sense” is present in this new edition and, even though the first edition was published only five months ago, a great deal has changed in terms of U.S. Immigration. Second, Patrick Mazor redirected the work toward an area that has a much greater need for quality information than immigration attorneys and paralegals. There are many social services non-profit agencies that work with people who are at risk and who have immigration challenges. These include victims of human trafficking, victims or domestic violence, and victims of crime. Additionally, these same agencies may work with people who are refugees or eligible for asylum. Yet, they may not be aware that there is a way by which their foreign national clients can be helped. This second edition covers those issues completely. The most important change in terms of working with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can be found in the chapter entitled, “The New Attestations – Major Responsibilities.” There is no exaggeration in the words, “Everything has changed.” It has. Readers who focus on that chapter are encouraged to understand that the Department of Homeland Security is very serious in what it is saying and what it is requiring of Accredited Representatives, attorneys, and paralegals. Anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken. Understanding Immigration contains a multitude of common sense practice tips, insights into the thinking of the government, a practical approach to working an immigration file start to finish, and helpful hints for non-profit agencies looking to do more to help others. This book is a “must have” for any Recognized Organization as a helpful reference tool and much much more.

Takes time to clearly explain By Mana G There are quite a few good things to say about this book. The first is that the author takes time to clearly explain everything- definitions, acronyms, you name it- clearly and without useless jargon. Its a huge help for anyone that's not a paralegal and truly needs to learn about immigration without losing the time of looking words up. But, as I mentioned, that is not the only great thing about this book. The author starts slow in order to give the background and history of specific events and laws so that I, as a reader, could understand why the hoops and jumps we go through are in place. In addition there are sets of questions that a prospective immigrate will have to answer when going through the application process that are explained. I could go on and on about more 'additional' things about this book- different kinds of sponsorships, qualifications behind those who help you along the way, waivers, attitude- the list goes on. This is truly a comprehensive guide to those who are seeking to learn more about immigration.*As a reader of several Kindle books I feel the need to point out that this book is both formatted correctly and well edited.

By Ms. Bookaholic This book is packed with information not only on immigration process, but also how a non-profit agency becomes a recognized organization. There are practical steps presented in this book that are easy to follow, though the author clearly states that this is just a guide for us to understand how everything works. This is not a guide for us to handle the immigration process on our own. At first, I thought this would be another book with lots of legal-speak, which I may not understand fully. However; the author did a great job in presenting data in layman’s terms. This makes the complicated subject simple for anyone. I would highly recommend this to those who want to understand the immigration process, or to non-profit agencies who wants to be a recognized organization.
