1 of 3 people found the following review helpful. paint by numbers By Char I'm not a fan of this one. Many of the recipes are needlessly repetitious, and seem designed to pad out the recipe count to a magic 100. We don't need three recipes, in three places, for duck, pork, and chicken carnitas, for example. None of the recipes seemed particularly original, and none brought a special sensibility to the topic. I was also frustrated that there were entries for salsas and garnishes scattered throughout the book, in addition to the chapter on salsas.I also found Dos Caminos Tacos curiously lacking in voice; I got no sense of what excites Ivy Stark about tacos, no sense of passion or affection for the topic, no character to the recipes, and no depth of appreciation or knowledge. It felt like a paint-by-numbers exercize by a famous-ish New York gringo chef trying to diversify her income streams, honestly - even the recipes that qualified as unique seemed oddly characterless and derivative. I found that Mark Miller's Tacos or Sara Deseran's Tacolicious seem to capture more of the fun, creative, unstructured spirit of taco culture, and come from a place of personal passion and enjoyment of the topic. I'd also recommend anything by Roberto Santibañez over this one.It wouldn't make a bad first cookbook for someone getting into tacos, but I don't think it brings anything new or exciting to the cookbook world. Given that Alex Stupak's (of Empellon Cocina) "Tacos: Recipes and Provocations" and the English translation of Tacopedia are both coming out soon, I'd advise giving this one a pass.
