The Lawyer As Leader is a call to Lawyers however its wisdom on leadership is certainly a cross-professional model that is applicable to all professionals with a desire to empower the populations they serve. By Ernest Comer III The Lawyer as a Leader is a book full of incredible insight and a powerful perspective on social justice that drives the reader to consider his or her own role in the work to address the issues of poverty and discrimination. The tone of the message is clear – we all have a role to play in reversing the negative implications of social issues and those in the legal profession have a special opportunity and responsibility to be leaders of that cause. The symbol of the Banyan tree is a strong metaphor for how networks of emerging and veteran leaders should function – it’s a great motif that keeps the reader grounded in the purpose of the writing which calls for each of us to acknowledge the role we play and the responsibility we have to the community.
