From the Back Cover A mixed genre book, Pills Poetry & Prose travels the turbulent path of an everyday woman struggling with the frightening diagnosis of schizophrenia. This book will offer insight and understanding to those who are curious about schizophrenia and will encourage those who are struggling to find hope. The author takes us on a tour of her life as a child before her diagnosis, the heartbreaking experience of a severely broken marriage, to the degrading stereotypes and stigmas she was made to endure. One poem even addresses the Nazi's horrifying treatment of people with schizophrenia prior to World War II. The pieces move from tragedy to triumph as the author learns how to accept her diagnosis, and then to live with a highly misunderstood brain disease. In the end it is about transformation, about the brave and courageous steps it takes the author to come out of the closet after twenty years of hiding, and to openly admit to having a mental illness. She finds this courage in order to champion those that are too scared to speak their truth and to thrive in her own right.
About the Author Rebecca Chamaa graduated from The Evergreen State College. She attends two writer's groups, one for poetry, and one for memoir. She has had her work published in England, Canada, and the United States. She blogs at ajourneywithyou.com

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must read for all who care By cleome Ms Chamaa's book is a must read for anyone interested in the experiences of those living with mental illness. She expresses herself in an easy to read book of poetry and prose which becomes a window of understanding into her complicated and sensitive mind and must be at least a reflection of the experiences of some of those we love but who are unable to write so succinctly. In Rebecca's blog, www.ajourneywithyou.com,she continues to unravel the mysteries of schizophrenia with her skillful craft which provokes both thought and empathy.

An exquisite, sometimes heartbreaking, story By Victoria Melekian The skillfully woven arc of these essays and poems creates an exquisite, sometimes heartbreaking, story of paranoid schizophrenia. The author explains the nuances of the delicate balancing act she lives through daily. I raced through the first read of the book because I'd never had schizophrenia explained to me -- I wanted to know what happened. The second, slower read I was immersed in Ms. Chamaa's wonderful writing. I would suggest this book as a must-read for anyone struggling with mental illness.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Schizophrenia Unveiled By Jill G. Hall Rebecca Chamaa's prose is as lyrical as her poems. This book is a thought-provoking, fascinating read. It's sad at times but resilient in others. I now understand more about schizophrenia and will now be more sensitive to those with mental illnesses. Kudos to the author for coming out and sharing her story.
