About the Author Alfred Edersheim (1825-1889) nacido en Austria, en el seno de una familia judia acomodada, curso estudios sobre la Thora y el Talmud en escuelas rabinicas y de lenguas en la Universidad de Viena. Al emigrar a Hungria, se convirtio al cristianismo por la influencia del presbiteriano escoces John Duncan, marcho a Escocia, donde curso estudios de teologia en el New College de Edimburgo y fue ordenado ministro de la Iglesia presbiteriana en 1846. En 1875 se unio a la Iglesia Anglicana, dedicandose a dar conferencias sobre judaismo y cristianismo en la Universidad de Oxford, que finalmente se convertirian en gruesas obras literarias. Desde entonces, Edersheim ha sido mundialmente reconocido y apreciado, como el hombre que mejor ha sabido analizar y explicar al mundo cristiano el contexto de usos y costumbres judaicas que forman el contexto historico del Antiguo Testamento y Nuevo Testamento. 12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Prophecy and History in Relation to the Messiah By James G. Wolfe This is written with the author's usual clarity and erudition. It is not quite so interesting as other of his writings because it is concerned with the so-called higher criticism, a thing that is of no importance to me because I know that that is just damnable unbelief. But, as always, it is very enjoyable to follow this man's wonderful sense of logic and his deep sense of spirituality. I highly recommend it for the learned reader.

By Kyle Black Edersheim was convinced of the truthfulness that the Hebrew scripture had been written before the Babylonian Captivity. He sees the House of Israel's past merging into the coming of the messiah and the fullfillment of prophesy and the flow of History into that direction. Wonderful book. Old style, but relevant and well argued.

Great Jewish scholar Alfred Edersheim accepted Jesus of Nazareth as his Messiah, and brought his knowledge of the Hebrew Scriptures and the world in which they were written to a series of books so helpful for those who hunger to know more of the meaning of the written Word of God. If you want to love God "with all your mind", this is good material to have on hand to read and re-read.
