I found that trying to share the knowledge with others was difficult as most people will not take the time to read the books, especially the more technical ones. This book is written in a layman's way, is easy to understand and is much shorter than the others. Hopefully I can now share why I am such an advocate for magnesium.Magnesium has literally saved my life.

Chambers With so much emphasis nowadays on calcium, apparently we've overlooked the significance of magnesium, a mineral that plays an essential role in maintaining good health. That's the message that author Nolan Edwards has for readers. Magnesium helps to maintain nerve function, supports a healthy immune system, keeps bones strong, and helps keep the heart pumping normally. I knew that calcium is important to prevent osteoporosis, but I didn't know that magnesium works in conjunction with calcium for that purpose. The book covers a lot more health issues than just bone strength, however, including magnesium's role in preventing heart attack and strokes, controlling diabetes, maintaining energy levels, and its function in preventing or mitigating other common disorders. The author makes the case that over the past century, the dietary intake of magnesium has declined, claiming that as many as 82% of Americans may have magnesium deficiencies. The book gives the recommended daily allowances of magnesium for adults: 320 mg per day for women, 360 mg per day for pregnant women, and 420 mg per day for men. I checked the label on the multivitamins that I take and saw that they're only providing 33 mg of magnesium (as amino acid chelate) per day. Considering that I don't consume a lot of foods that are high in magnesium - nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables, oatmeal, beans, and certain fruits and whole grains - I'm now thinking about taking magnesium supplements. If you do decide on supplements, the book has some advice on the best forms of magnesium to take, including transdermal supplementation. And of course, the author advises readers to ask their doctor for a magnesium blood test to determine actual magnesium levels. The book, although a short read, was useful to me in raising my awareness of the importance of magnesium. My only negative comment is that the book sometimes refers to studies about magnesium, but it doesn't always identify these studies or give a link to them. The book does include a bibliography of sources, however.

By Anna I had severe joint pain in my hands, feet, and hip for two years before a specialist diagnosed vitamin D deficiency. Now after reading Magnesium, I'm pretty darn sure I'm deficient here as well. I've got every symptom, and when I checked my very expensive multi-vitamin...I find it only gives me a tiny amount of magnesium. I think I should be taking K2 with my D and most definately CALCIUM. Thanks for all the details! I appreciated knowing what my labs should look like and how much and what kind to take, among a hundred other things:)
