The construct of “parental alienation” has a controversial history. An attachment-based model of “parental alienation” brings the controversy to an end. An attachment-based model of “parental alienation” uses established constructs and principles of professional psychology to fully describe the psychological and interpersonal processes that create the symptom features of “parental alienation.” By defining “parental alienation” within standard and established psychological principles and constructs, an attachment-based model identifies a set of specific diagnostic indicators that can reliably identify "parental alienation" while differentiating "parental alienation" from other sources of parent-child conflict. An attachment-based model for the construct of "parental alienation" also identifies specific domains of professional expertise and knowledge necessary for the professionally competent diagnosis and treatment of this special population of children and families. Children deserve a childhood free from the stress of their parents’ conflict, and parents deserve to love and be loved by their children. An attachment-based model of "parental alienation" represents an important step in creating a solution to the family tragedy of "parental alienation" in high-conflict divorce.

It offers great hope to thousands, perhaps millions, of harmed children. This attachment model offers incredible explanatory depth, clearing up baffling mysteries about what happened and how it all works. I am most familiar with a "non cookie cutter case", but yet the theory is fully accurate. This book also explains why mental health professionals, community members, family friends, and courts "get it wrong" much more often than not and unwittingly harm these suffering children. If you can own only one book about children, it should be this book.

It is explained how the mental health and legal systems need to better serve this special population By Kenneth Iles This outstanding book explains in detail the child abuse associated with attachment based "parental alienation." It describes the pathology of the narcissistic borderline personality and the borderline personality disorders and how at times they may overlap. Pathogenic parenting, regulatory others, role reversal, splitting are only some of many of the terms that you will learn about. You will learn to understand the difference between attachment based "parental alienation" and parental alienation syndrome. It is explained how the mental health and legal systems need to better serve this special population. I liked this book because it verified the emotions I was living these past four years with answers. Child abuse must stop and this book will help contribute to that end. A must read for targeted parents, extended family members, mental health agencies, custody evaluators, attorneys, child protection services, school therapist and counselors.

By Anthony Mancuso This book is a must read if your family is suffering from parental alienation. I have been battling this syndrome at the hands of my ex wife for several years and have had no less than a half dozen mental health professionals involved. Most of them could see what was going on to some extent but did not realize how complex the situation was and did not know how to properly handle the situation. Dr. Childress understands and explains the dynamics of PA at the hands of a narcissistic/borderline parent far better than anyone I have ever read or had family therapy with. He offers real, solutions, based on long established psychological principles, some of which I have applied to my situation with great success. His website and blog are also filled with pages of useful and enlightening information.
