Life Without Approval: My Journey From Worrying What Others Think to Embracing My Own Voice In Society, Love and Work, by Cynthia Belmer Review "Cynthia's story is thought provoking and her words are inspiring to the heart. This book is a great reminder to explore our journey to self-love and let go of what cripples us most like the fear of being judged." - Susan Gonzalez, BSN | Author | Public Speaker"As a Psychologist, I am in awe of the open and vulnerable manner in which Cynthia presents herself in this story. It is a great illustration that all humans have the same fears, regardless of oursuccesses, past experiences or history. Overall, a great read which I would highly recommend, especially for ambitious women!" - Florence Strang, B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed. | Registered Psychologist | Author | Public Speaker" Cynthia's story really spoke to my heart. It was interesting to learn more about her culture and to learn more about the difficulties involved beyond the difficulties of American women her age. Her journey also allowed me to connect more to my own authenticity and truth. I recommend this book to everyone since we all can benefit from more acceptance of our self, other, and life." - Dr. Tamra Sattler, PHD | LMFT "I loved this book! Her story and journey to freedom was vulnerable, inspiring and relatable. I love the style of her writing how she invites the reader to look at their life by asking powerful questions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a thought-provoking and inspiring read." - Anna Goldstein, Business Coach
From the Author When I first had the idea to write this book, I believed I had a story and a message that I needed to share with the world. The word "healing" kept coming to me in various ways, but I wasn't sure why or how this process was going to unfold. I simply listened to and trusted my intuition. I woke up every morning with excitement, yet somewhat fearful, to relive my past through this undertaking. I wrote for hours every single day. Writing this book made me realize that, although I thought all my wounds had healed over the years, everything in life is a process. At times, I could not stop writing; at other times, I felt the drudging up of memories was taking too big a toll on me. I persevered anyway--through laughter, tears, heartache, and joy. After all, that's what's life is all about--surviving the tough times, finding the lessons, and enjoying the good times. In the beginning, reliving the past placed me in a precarious emotional place. To see the sights in my mind's eye, to experience old feelings in my being, and to recall hurtful words was difficult. Yet it turned out to be the most healing experience of my life. And so I want to thank you. If it hadn't been my mission to inspire you, I may never have felt my heart open as much and as powerfully as I feel it today. Although this story is about me, at its most intrinsic level, it is about all of humanity. We share the same emotions and the same basic desires in life. How we each personally experience them is different, but the root of it all is that we're all the same regardless of our background, ethnicity, skin color, age, country of origin, and so on. While our experiences may be different on the surface, you are human as much as I am and as much as everyone else is, whether he or she ruled a kingdom or lived on the street. Human emotions are universal regardless of the stories we tell ourselves, and beneath it all, we want the same thing: to be free to be who we are and to be loved unconditionally. This book is about how the hardships I perceived in my life were an invitation to get in touch with the seed of love and power that is already within me. I felt as if my higher self and inner voice were taking over when I shared my true self, my fears, my hopes, and my growth with you, the reader. That's why my goal in this book is to inspire you to grow and to seek your freedom, as I have been doing throughout every chapter of my life. In return, I invite you to reflect on who you are, to understand yourself way deeper than you ever have before, and most of all, to know that everything happens so that you can unfold like a sapling from a seed, destined to bloom into your true colors. I share my stories and my growth with you in this book so that you know you're not alone in your journey. Today is a new day; it's a new chapter in your life. I invite you to give yourself permission to love yourself and to be happy. Today, you can start making the change you need to be free from all that is blocking you from joy, freedom, happiness, and unconditional love.My mission is to start the process of liberating you from your stories and to help you recognize how much power you have to express your unique self and to freely create the life you deserve. I believe you are beautiful and that being who you are is the best gift you can give yourself and the world. As you embark on the journey awaiting you in the following pages, I leave you with my three favorite words: I love you.

By Mara Anthony As a woman who is also looking for her own personal freedom and overall purpose – I really got so much from reading this book. The way Cynthia unveils her story without any inhibitions, gives the reader permission to explore her own vulnerability and what that means to her. It allows the reader to relate her own story to Cynthia’s story, and the many challenges she has faced throughout her life. For me it’s the type of book that I could read over and over again, especially when I am looking for comfort in knowing that I am not alone in my pain, but also when I feel the vulnerability in my joy.I have already recommended this book to many of my family members and friends. I feel that by reading this book, you feel Cynthia's struggle and it opens your heart to your own struggles. This somehow eases the pain and allows for healing to take place - as you become more gentle with yourself and others around you. After reading Cynthia's story, I was totally convinced that she was the person that I wanted to work with to help me meet my freedom. Thank you!

I really got so much more than I bargained for and made myself a better person in the process By Susan Gonzalez, RN author of 100 Perks of Having Cancer plus 100 Health Tips for Surviving It I was expecting to read a fascinating story about a Lebanese woman who came from a country very different than the US to start a life. I was interested in her story...how she grew up...all her family went through...the religious issues etc.But what I got was so much more! At the end of each chapter Cynthia asks questions of the reader and makes you reflect on what she experienced as it relates to your own life. This helped with really discovering the issues I had with my own thoughts about what freedom really is and means for me personally....not politically. I was able to identify some issues I have with letting go of "stuff".I really got so much more than I bargained for and made myself a better person in the process!

We're from completely different cultures, backgrounds, and sets of experiences. I expected a journey into her culture and her life story, and I got all of that. But I also discovered hers is a universal story from which anyone can learn and to which anyone, especially women can relate--common struggles, common challenges, common obstacles. What's uncommon is how she's taken the time to record her analysis of all of those events. Most helpful are the questions at the end of each chapter. They encouraged me to reflect on my life and my choices in a way that can only help me improve. Working through them in my journal is a study in self-development.
