A great resource for professionals working between Japanese and non-Japanese companies By Chris Adcock Warren demonstrates a firm grasp of the nuances between Japanese and western business culture. While this book will certainly help Japanese professionals in multi-national companies to be more effective communicators and have better results, it equally can be used by non-Japanese working with Japanese firms or in 外資系 (foreign companies in Japan) to better understand Japanese business culture and how to overcome obstacles.As a manager working for a foreign company in Japan, this book has helped me in my daily interactions and I strongly recommend it as a resource for doing business between Japan and other countries.

By Charlie Badenhop Having lived and worked in Japan for 30 years, I can tell you that Warren is the real deal. He walks the talk, and in regard to this book, that means that Warren's fluency in the Japanese language, leads to his fluency in understanding Japanese culture.This book offers respectful, intelligent insight into how to harness "difference" rather than bemoaning what seems to be intractable. When reading this book it will likely soon become clear that you can use what he suggests in every relationship you enter into.Even after all my years in Japan, I found that this book had a lot to teach me. Percy In this synthesis, Dall’Orto incorporates more data from Italy’s rich archives than any compilation since the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality (Garland, 2 Vols, 1990), now being re-issued by Routledge reprints. He ends with the “the triumph of totalitarianism (1933-1950)”. He hardly discusses U.S.A at all, where the homophile movement began in 1950. (Since then, in fact, most research has been done in Anglophonic countries and by Anglophonic speakers.) His chapters on Spain, Portugal, France and even Germany are outstanding.Tutta un’altra storia compares in many ways favorably with Louis Crompton’s Homosexuality and Civilization, for which I was the second reader at Harvard University’s prestigious Belknap Press. Both of these magnificent, single authored histories of homosexuality begin with Jewish scriptures and Greco-Roman pagan culture. Then they concentrate on Western civilization, and emphasize male-male sexuality. Crompton added sections on China and Japan that could have been omitted but Dall’Orto didn’t bother with the non-western world. Like Crompton, he ignores sub-Saharan African, Australian and New World aboriginals. Both those authors, like the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality, correctly downplay social constructionism. All three works go against both Kenneth Dover’s Greek Homosexuality and Craig Williams’ Roman Homosexuality. All three works also disagree with both of John Boswell’s major works and with all those of David Halperin.

This is the book all healthcare professionals should read - especially primary-care providers. More importantly, it offers guidance for any woman who has had breast implants (whether she is having problems with them or not), and should be essential reading for those considering this surgery.Barbara writes with great compassion, and in an inclusive style that invites the reader into her personal story. Even women who have never considered breast implantation will find it a compelling read.Alongside her own scandalous, gripping tale, Barbara provides groundbreaking, logical and painstaking medico-legal research. Her discussion of the legal issues relating to informed consent and medical consumers' "right to know" open a whole can of worms that medical regulatory bodies and governments ignore at their peril.

Compelling story set to change lives By smink works This book is essential reading for any woman considering getting breast implants, as well as those women who already have them.It is also a helpful book for anyone tackling debilitating health challenges, especially undiagnosed or misdiagnosed health problems. Barbara Stanistreet has experienced decades of often debilitating health issues as a result of having breast implants. This is her story of how she has survived in the face of misdiagnosis, malpractice, and often a lack of empathy and proper care and attention, and how she continues to fight to find out exactly what was in the breast implants placed inside her.Indeed, the book highlights the fact that it's astounding that women do not, and cannot, know exactly what is being put into their bodies when they get breast implants. Barbara tells of her repeated thwarted attempts to access information about the exact nature of the chemicals used in breast implants in order to be able to get accurate diagnosis and treatment. This is the same information that would allow women to make an informed choice about what is being surgically placed in their bodies.A compelling well-written story, it is inspiring because of Barbara's tenacity and commitment to finding out the truth, and reclaiming her health. She has been able to write an incredible book that is not only a gripping and, at times, horrifying read, but that contains scientific and legal research that backs up her story. And she wrote it while experiencing often debilitating illness. I really hope her efforts will change lives, empower those who are suffering, and help prevent other women from having similar experiences.

I also want to learn how to cook healthy for me and my family. And this book is a great pick! You will learn different kind of recipes to cook plus not only the meals but also dessert that will make you and your family happy. Easy recipes to follow and instructions are understandable. I love how the author has explained on the first part about ketogenic and what is it followed by a lot of recipes you would like to try. Since I love spicy food the recipes in this book is made for me.I highly recommend this book to people who love to cook or want to learn how to cook at the same time have a healthy diet.

Martin Admittedly, I am new to kerogenic diets, but this book contains many recipes that have ingredients that I have read--and been told by my nutritionist--that should not be consumed on a kerogenic diet. Beans, rice, potatoes, etc. The book does contain lots of recipes, and some of them do sound good. I will be trying those, and I expect I will enjoy them. But I must admit I found the practice of making every single recipe title begin with Ketogenic incredibly annoying...and totally unnecessary. As a newbie, I found other books more to my preference.

It was basically a very small cookbook with no calorie, fat or carb counts on the recipes. It isn't about allergy relief at all, unless you're allergic to gluten. If I had known it was a "gluten free cookbook" I never would have ordered it. You can find millions of recipes for free on-line.

This book showed me that Apple Cider Vinegar does a lot of things I wasn't even aware of! I learned quite a few new things about it. Apple Cider Vinegar is another step in your healthy habits and I'd recommend this book to show you the way.

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Unraveling the Confusion but Maintaining the Mystery By Erika Borsos Most people have heard of the opposite energies, called yin and yang. Although, commonly translated as male and female energies, they can also be viewed as push and pull, or negative and positive dualities that, when understood thoroughly, can be balanced to achieve harmony ... and a sense of unity or completeness. This book explores the mystery of the union of these energies in terms of male and female relationships. However, anyone thinking this is a manual for physical union should look elsewhere. This book is about the philosophical basis to imbalances. It provides a means or method to achieve a more balanced outlook and awareness.Ray Grigg, the author, covers a lot of territory in the introduction alone. Although the book is about "love", the word love is never mentioned. When there is disharmony, there exists the feeling of loss, the giving away of energy without reciprocation, the lack of equality. In Chinese, the word, te, refers to "power" but not in the Western sense, it means something like virtue/power, where one loses or comes into balance with "what is" or the Tao, the natural flow of life ... When that is out of kilter --- so is the rest of your life. This book in essence is about the "dance of energy" between yin and yang. There is no real resolution to the opposites ... the dance is on-going ... there is a constant coming together in harmony and then a separtion of energies ... or coming apart. Adjusting ourselves to this wave-like exchange of energies ... not getting stuck in one phase or the other is the secret to a harmonious relationship. It is not necessarily a linear process ... It is a spiritual quest ... Sometimes, one must just take the plunge and experience the awakening of desire, of freedom without boundaries, of the accompanying confusion that arises, the awkwardness of imbalance and the resolution of opposite energies.This book has extraordinairy translations ... that are not expounded upon or explained. They are left for the reader to ponder, determine if they are helpful and apply within their own life. There are beautiful drawings which illustrate, very simply, the concept or idea within the text. The drawings are elegant and profound ... each text has a heading which grips the reader's attention. The headings alone are pregnant with potential meaning. For example, "secret meeting secret", "undivided silence", "let the changing change", "a special kind of keeping", "ocean womb", "in the very center of now", "trunk and roots of words", "so much is found", "primal dark", and "the primal is tamed". This book rceives my highest recommendations for people daring to explore their own personal nature (energy) and then connect with "the other" or someone with an opposite nature (energy). Grigg masters the art of condensing wisdom in single sentences, and combines it with the power of building the reader's state of mind, up to those Zen nutshells, with elegant and simple poetry. An excellent book, to be read slowly, letting every sentence and paragraph sink.

I have read the Tao Te Ching many times, but never saw how it applied to my marriage and relations with the opposite sex. This books is great! It leads you to the answer in yourself without telling you want to do specifically.

Micro Distilleries in New York State Fascinate Readers and Drinkers By Anne Wingate I was provided a free copy of this book in return for an honest review--and what, you may ask, does a Utah Mormon do with a book about small distilleries in New York State? Well, I happen to be a writer, and I am already considering how to work some of this information into some of my novels. To sum up quickly, changes in the law allow New York residents to go commercial with spirits in much smaller quantities than was previously required, and to treat them as farm produce rather than as alcoholic beverages. The result has to be an extremely varied crop of beverages, many of which sounded interesting. The only thing that concerns me--and this is a concern with the liquor rather than with the book--is that absinthe is being produced. Absinthe is well known to seriously damage the brain when taken in even moderate amounts, and I would hate to see the Paris experience with absinthe repeated in New York. France long since outlawed absinthe entirely, and its major ingredient, wormwood, was declared unfit for human consumption. But the book itself is interesting, and if you use alcoholic beverages, and live in or intend to visit New York, you are likely to have a use for this information.

I liked learning about the different distilleries and the craft spirits. It was nice that there were recipes included that you can use these spirits in. A fun book for anyone interested in spirits. Even though I do not drink all that much I still thought the book was a good one. This book would also make a good coffee table book.

From the Publisher David Hufford's academic work, subtitled An Experience Centered Study of Supernatural Assault Traditions, deals with the so-called 'Old Hag' experience, a psychologically disturbing event in which a victim claims to have encountered some form of malign entity whilst dreaming (or awake). Sufferers report feeling suffocated, held down by some 'force', paralyzed-and extremely afraid. It is an experience which is surprisingly common, with Hufford estimating that approximately 15% of people undergo it at some point in their lives. About the Author David J. Hufford is Professor and Director at the Doctors Kienle Center for Humanistic Medicine at the Penn State College of Medicine (Hershey), where he has appointments in Medical Humanities, Behavioral Science, and Family and Community Medicine. He is Adjunct Professor in the Program of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

By Aaron Anderson If you have ever awoke to the sudden realization that you cannot move, and this experience has been accompanied by a convincing feeling that there is something with a sinister intention there with you in the room, or if you have felt, heard, or even seen something strange and haunting during this state of immobility, then this book is for you my unfortunate friend! I have suffered from sleep paralysis most my life, and this is the only book I have ever found that explores the subject. A very interesting read! Although I do not agree with some of the conclusions that the author suggests, it is nevertheless a well researched and informative book. By the way, if you do suffer from sleep paralysis or the "old hag" as Hufford calls it, it is completely harmless based upon my own experience, other than it can scare the bejeebers out of you. If you do suffer from the above mentioned symptoms, there are several BB's on the web where you can talk with others that suffer from SP, and don't get too worked up over it, it happens to a lot of us as this book skilfully demonstrates.

Erland Well, if the title 'The Terror That Comes in the Night' doesn't immediately spark your interest how about that secondary subtitle, 'An Experience-Centered Study of Supernatural Assault Traditions.' Doesn't it sound like a book you'd like to have resting on your lap while riding the subway, or sitting in a busy doctor's office. I just love those weird looks people give you when they see what you're reading.Being one of those people who have a long history of suffering from "Night Terrors" I had a personal interest in purchasing this book. I wanted to compare my own nightmarish encounters with what others had endured during those long and dreadful hours preceding dawn. For me it was a cathartic and affirming endeavor. Therapy you might say.Since my primary attraction to this book was the first-hand accounts provided by the participants in this study, not the research or conclusions drawn by Mr. Hufford, it turned out to be a worthwhile read for me. However if you're looking for some world shattering conclusions or monumental breakthroughs you'll probably be disappointed.An overall intriquing read for those fascinated by nightmares and the realm of dreams.

20 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Commendable, but needs an update By M. Packo I applaud Professor Hufford for this ground-breaking analysis of Night Hag (Phantomania) attacks. Nothing else quite like it since its original publication over 20 years ago.* As of 2013, I notice several other books have been published concerning this topic. Unfamiliar with their content, so unable to comment on their quality.Though it begins with, and is occasionally bogged down by some typically tiresome academic prose, for the most part Hufford has the courage to allow the facts - meaning testimonies - to speak for themselves. With the benefit of his methodical and objective reasoning, this approach eventually delivers his subject from the tediousness of too much jargon and equivocation.And though he wisely resists arriving at any certain conclusions, his courage to at least acknowledge most of the possible explanations - physio/psychological or supernatural - associated with pavor nocturnus is much to his credit.Many of the eyewitness accounts (which, I think, could have been improved by some editing), actually make for rather scary and unnerving late night reading. If you are familiar with the lackluster Grave's End, you will know what I mean. Likewise, similar examples of such "entity" encounters can be found in numerous other allegedly true haunting accounts. The resemblances and similarities are remarkable and, I submit, establish a pattern of credibility rather than imitation. TI only wish that the Professor had more thoroughly described the different stages of sleep, including brain wave Hz rates, length and periodicity of cycles and degress of REM activity. It seems to me that an all inclusive scientific study of nightmares should result in some truly surprising insights into the nature of consiousness itself. At the very least a more complete and rigorous background explanation of what we currently understand about sleep would do much to bolster the bona fides of this specific inquiry.Likewise, Professor Hufford is way overdue for an update considering the limited sources his research was conducted from and based upon. Considering the fact that he has pioneered this topic, his further investigations ought to be of even greater value and objectivity.* I have found at least one somewhat decent documentary about Night Hag/Shadow People, from @ 2008 which includes Hufford's comments. It is available on YouTube. He wisely maintains an objective, agnostic opinion, though does not indicate whether or not he is still involved in research.Regarding the entity hypothesis - which I obviously find the most reasonable (yes, that's the right word!), allow me to recommend a perusal of Carlos Castaneda's The Active Side of Infinity, particularly the chapters on Inorganic Awareness and Mud Shadows.Skeptical? Just take a look, you'll see what I mean.Not necessarily THE explanation, but there certainly are many interesting correlations!

I am very disappointed that this is referred to as a cookbook for those with Kidney Disease since the Nutritional Information does not list the phosphorus which is a very important part of the Dialysis Diet. All foods contain phosphorus and looking it us takes time, so when I saw this book advertised I naturally thought it would list that information in the recipe. I do not believe you should advertise this as a Kidney Disease cook book.

By Adrian i try to be as healthy and as proactive as possible. call me paranoid but i like to eat at least one meal a week that is really good for me (without losing any flavor) this book is one way that i can stay proactive and can stay ahead of the game, i take plenty of vitamins and try to protect everything on the inside of my body but what good is it if i don't eat properly this book helps me make delicious healthy meals for my kidneys and helps keep me healthy .
